EAST LAKE - It was a brazen crime at an unlikely time, in an unlikely neighborhood.

About noon Monday, George Jones, 46, saw two men walking in some woods behind his home and went outside to investigate, authorities said.

The men drew handguns and ordered him back inside the house, located in the 2700 block of Post Rock Drive, in the tony Cypress Lake Estates subdivision.

The men tied up Jones, put him in a shower and rummaged through the home in search of valuables. They collected some items and left. Officials would not say what they took.

Jones later freed himself and ran to a neighbor's home, where he called 911. Deputies were dispatched at 12:44 p.m.

"While this incident is unusual, it illustrates the point that residents should remain vigilant, even in the best of neighborhoods," sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jim Bordner said. "When you see something suspicious, even during daylight hours, you are encouraged to contact law enforcement to investigate, rather than put yourself in harm's way."

Jones was not injured in the robbery. A man who answered the phone at the residence Monday afternoon said Jones did not want to discuss the incident.

Bordner said investigators did not know of similar robberies in the area and weren't sure why the men chose Jones' home.

The robbers were described as white men with thin builds. One was about 6 feet 1; the other, 5 feet 10. Both wore black ski masks and black gloves.
