CAIR has forum tonight about hate crimes

BROOKSVILLE The Tampa chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations will host a forum on hate crimes at 6 p.m. today in the John Law Ayers room at the Hernando County Government Center, 20 N Main St. Among the speakers will be representatives from the FBI, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Hernando County Sheriff's Office. The event is free and open to the public and will be broadcast live on Hernando government television Channel 19. For information, call (813) 731-9506. COUNTYWIDE Claim homestead for '06 by March 1 Residents who bought a home in Hernando County during the 2006 tax year are reminded that applications for homestead exemption must be submitted to the Property Appraiser's Office by March 1 to receive the benefit for the 2007 tax year. Applications after March 1 will be considered for 2008. To qualify for homestead exemption and the accompanying Save Our Homes assessment cap, the home must be the primary and permanent residence. Hernando County Property Appraiser Alvin Mazourek has two offices: City Hall, 201 Howell Ave., Suite 300, Brooksville; and 7499 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. BROOKSVILLE Outreach will give out food at church Compassion Food Outreach will distribute food at 8 a.m. Saturday at Grace World Outreach Church, 20366 Cortez Blvd. The distribution will continue until the food is gone.
