HERNANDO

Hernando Elementary School was briefly locked down Wednesday after someone spotted a suspicious man with a shotgun near the school, law enforcement and school officials said. Principal Belinda Woythaler said the person never came on campus and no children were directly at risk. But the school closed the main entrance and kept children indoors as a precautionary measure. According to the Sheriff's Office, someone called the Florida Highway Patrol and reported seeing a man riding a bicycle with a shotgun along U.S. 41 and County Road 486. Six patrols canvassed the area but did not find the suspicious person. The school reopened 25 minutes later.
