TAMPA - Three men have been linked by Sheriff's Office investigators to five robberies in western Hillsborough since late last year.

On Wednesday, deputies charged three Tampa men with armed robbery, accusing them of robbing a man making a night deposit drop at the Bank of America at 10301 N Dale Mabry Highway.

Arrested were Andrew Tywan Adkins, 20, of 8022 Elm St.; Avery Donnell Adams, 19, of 2506 Walnut St. W, Apt. A; and Demetrius Eugene Wise, 19, of 5909 Birchwood Drive.

All three remained in jail Thursday without bail.

Deputies said an employee of a Tire Kingdom near the Bank of America went to make a night deposit just after 8 p.m. Wednesday when he was approached and robbed by Adkins and Adams. Wise drove the getaway car, deputies said.

A bystander saw the robbery, wrote down the car's tag number and called authorities. Deputies saw the vehicle nearby on Gunn Highway and stopped it for questioning. The investigation led to the arrests.

On Saturday, Tampa police arrested Dedrick Donte Mathis, 18, of 10353 Del Mar Court, in connection with a robbery at a Bank of America night drop at Hillsborough and Himes.

The Sheriff's Office said investigators think Mathis is an associate of the three men arrested Wednesday.

Mathis was charged with five counts of robbery with a firearm and five related charges, and was being held in jail without bail Thursday.

The three men arrested in Wednesday's robbery spent time in jail last year on unrelated charges, according to records.

Adkins was arrested in March, accused of trespassing; Adams was arrested in August, accused of operating an unregistered vehicle; and Wise was arrested twice within one week in August on charges that included dealing in stolen property, falsifying a pawnbroker form and grand theft with a firearm.

Detectives had been investigating nine armed robberies on the west side of Hillsborough County between Dec. 13 and Wednesday. So far, they say, the men arrested have been linked to five of the robberies.
