BROOKSVILLE The Hernando Computer Club will offer a big-screen presentation, "How to Do Wonders With a Digital Camera and Your Computer," at 7 p.m. Monday at the Hernando County Shrine Club, 13400 Montour St. The lecture will be presented by Wolfgang Steinberger, who will discuss functions of the digital camera, connecting it to a computer and loading images onto the hard drive. SPRING HILL Cancer Society plans fundraiser March 3 A March Madness Cancer Fundraising Event will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 3 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 10470 Spring Hill Drive. HERNANDO BEACH Next boating class to be offered March 6-8 The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Hernando Beach Flotilla 15-8, will offer its America's Boating Class from 7 to 9:30 p.m. March 6-8 at its facility, 4340 Calienta St. This is a basic course that satisfies the requirements needed to be issued a Florida Boating Safety ID Card. BROOKSVILLE 'New Odessey' finale is Friday at center Hernando Performing Arts Center still has tickets available for the New Odessey show that will be at 7 p.m. Friday. The show will include music from various eras as well as provide a humorous look at the history of composers and lyricists. Under the direction of certified musical director Amy Riddle, the 40-plus-member women's chorus is the local chapter of Sweet Adelines, performing four-part a cappella music. COUNTYWIDE Two projects in county get Swiftmud grants Two Hernando County projects were awarded Community Education Grants from the Southwest Florida Water Management District, commonly known as Swiftmud. The Nature Coast Botanical Gardens/Spring Hill Garden Club will receive $5,000 to remove invasive plants from their botanical gardens and restore the area with native plants. The Hernando County Groundwater Guardians will also receive $5,000 to conduct a one-day workshop to educate participants on the impact of storm water in their communities. This year, Swiftmud awarded 49 grants district wide for a total of $171,444. The grants are to fund projects that provide communities the opportunity to learn about water resources. The application process for the 2008 Community Education Grant Program will begin in June, if funding is approved by Swiftmud's basin boards. COUNTYWIDE Exhibitors needed for annual Baby Shower Exhibitors are being sought for the 10th-annual World's Greatest Baby Shower on May 19 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 13485 Spring Hill Drive. The free event, filled with health and wellness information, is for expectant and new parents or guardians of babies through 12 months. It also includes gifts, door prizes and refreshments. SPRING HILL Slovene-American Club plans polka fest The Slovene-American Club will sponsor a two-day polka festival March 3-4 at the SNPJ Hall, 13383 County Line Road. The event will feature the Karl Lakitsch Band from Pittsburgh, and Joe Novak and Friends from Cleveland, who will perform at various times. Doors will open at about noon on March 3 and dancing will continue until about 11 p.m. On March 4, doors will open at about 11 a.m. and dancing will be from 2 to 6 p.m. A cash bar and food will be available both days. SPRING HILL Bowl-a-thon to benefit kids set for April 7 Sponsors and bowlers are needed for the Big Brothers Big Sisters "Bowl for Kids' Sake" bowl-a-thon, which will be April 7 at Mariner Lanes, 3544 Mariner Blvd. There are various levels of sponsorships, starting at $150. The deadline for sponsors is March 8. There is no cost to register to bowl in the event. Teams of five bowlers are asked to raise at least $375; individual bowlers are asked to raise at least $75.
