PHCC offers courses for child care workers

BROOKSVILLE

Pasco-Hernando Community College will offer a Childhood Development Associate Renewal course from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, March 15 through May 3, at the North Campus, 11415 Ponce de Leon Blvd.

This 45-hour course is required for child care workers. The course reaffirms competencies and renews CDA and CDAE credentials for early care and early childhood education workers and is current through 2012.

Topics include rules, regulations and legislation that relates to the early child care profession. Students will write observations, lesson plans and individual activities, as well as review school readiness standards.

Yard sale benefits Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society's Brooksville Relay for Life teams will have a yard sale starting at 7 a.m. March 3 at the Killingsworth Plaza, which is on Truck Bypass 50 at Candlelight Boulevard.

All money raised will go to the American Cancer Society.

The Brooksville Relay will be May 4-5 at Hernando High School. Teams and individuals can still sign up. For information, call chairwoman Janie Wiley at 544-7098.

Garage sale fundraiser slated for Feb. 28

Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Epsilon Epsilon Chapter, will have a garage sale fundraiser from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 28 in the Summit Imaging parking lot on Cortez Boulevard at High Point Drive.

Proceeds will go to various local nonprofit groups the chapter supports, such as Pet Luv, SPCA of Hernando County and the Hernando County Education fund. For information, call T.L. Diaz at 797-0209.

Yacht club's annual yard sale is March 3

The Hernando Beach Yacht Club's annual yard sale will be from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 3 at the club, 4136 Shoal Line Blvd.

Golfers, sponsors needed for tourney

Golfers and sponsors are needed for the Jim Monk Eighth Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament, which will be April 14 at Rivard Golf and Country Club, 18001 Rivard Blvd., off Broad Street, south of Spring Hill Drive.

Hole sponsorships are $50. The cost to enter the tournament is $50 per person, which includes a buffet lunch catered by Brian's Place Restaurant and Gourmet Deli.

The tournament will have a shotgun start at 8 a.m. This is a four-person scramble with prizes awarded to the top three teams. There will also be prizes for closest to the pin on Par 3 holes and a prize for the longest drive. There will also be numerous door prizes.

The Jim Monk Scholarship is a nonprofit corporation. All donations are tax deductible. All proceeds go to scholarships for Hernando County high school seniors.

Entries are available at Rivard, Seven Hills Golfers Club, Dunes Golf Club and Sherman Hills Golf Club. Forms and payment can be dropped off at Rivard or mailed to Jim Monk, 3162 Wiltshire Ave., Spring Hill, FL 34608. For information, call Monk at 683-4091.

Register for sheriff's golf tournament

Sponsorships and participant registration are being accepted for the Hernando County Sheriff's Office Youth Education Services 21st annual Scramblers Golf Tournament, which will be March 10 at Brooksville Golf and Country Club at Majestic Oaks, 23446 Links Drive (off Croom Road).

Hole sponsorships are $50. The cost to enter the tournament is $75 per player, which includes a hot buffet lunch and a video golf lesson. All proceeds will benefit YES, which is a nonprofit organization formed to develop programs for youth.

Nursing students, apply now for aid

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 186 is offering scholarships to Hernando County residents who are pursuing nursing as a career.

The scholarship must be used in the 2007-08 school year.

Applications are available at the post, 12091 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill (next to High Point). The deadline to submit applications is noon March 2.

St. Frances Cabrini plans treasure sale

St. Frances Cabrini CCW will have a spring craft and treasure sale from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 2, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 3 and after Mass until 12:45 p.m. on March 4.

The church is at 5030 Mariner Blvd. There will also be a raffle, as well as a light breakfast, lunch, refreshments, homemade salad and desserts available.

Church needs items for rummage sale

Spring Hill United Church of Christ's semiannual indoor rummage sale and tailgate flea market will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 8 and from 8 a.m. to noon March 9 in the fellowship hall and church parking lot, 4244 Mariner Blvd.

Donations are appreciated, including clean clothing in good condition, books, toys, small appliances, hardware, sports equipment and other miscellaneous household items. Donations can be dropped off in the fellowship hall the week before the sale (between 9 a.m. and noon March 5-7).
