LAKELAND - Before taking part in Saturday's inaugural FHSAA 3-Point Showdown state final at the Lakeland Center, Gulf junior Jordan Schulman got some advice from her father.

"This is for fun," he told her. "Just enjoy it."

Schulman did more than that. She won it.

In an overtime shootout with Talia Bianco of Lakeland Sonrise Christian, Schulman drained eight of 10 3-pointers to become the state's first "Queen of the Hill."

"It's a little shocking, I'm not going to lie," Schulman said.

The final featured the winners of all six classifications. Schulman advanced to the championship round by claiming the Class 4A title Friday. She also won district and region competitions.

The 5-foot-4 guard made 69 3-pointers this season and averaged 15 points a game.

Schulman and Bianco each hit seven 3-pointers in regulation to tie for first. In overtime, Schulman missed two of her first three attempts, but finished by making seven in a row. Bianco made four.
