  • For their own good
Fifty years ago, they were screwed-up kids sent to the Florida School for Boys to be straightened out. But now they are screwed-up men, scarred by the whippings they endured. Read the story and see a video and portrait gallery.

Frank A. Reddick

Candidate for Tampa City Council District 5

Should the voters of District 5 simply be pragmatic or should they vote for the individual who will get results? One of my opponents has 10 years of experience as an elected official, but the people of District 5 have nothing of substance to show for his experience. I, Frank A. Reddick, plan to be an independent voice for District 5 residents while using my civic leadership and community involvement to provide effective results for the district and the city of Tampa.

When I applied to be the interim District 5 council member, I presented eight letters of recommendation and 1,200 petition signatures supporting my appointment. I am the only candidate in this race to have qualified for the ballot by petition. I encourage everyone to visit my Web site, www.reddick2007.com, to see 10 reasons why Frank A. Reddick should be the District 5 City Council representative. Reddick brings results, not promises.

Lisa Tamargo

Candidate for Tampa City Council District 6

Regarding the Tampa City Council recommendations, I'm very grateful to the Times for the kind words spoken about me. Thank you!

Understandably, I was quite disappointed for not being endorsed for the District 6 seat, and I do recognize the decision was based on my opponent's past experience on City Council.

In my opinion, for a position such as with our City Council, I would think choosing a person with a strong business background, who can provide a fresh perspective and positive approach while serving the community on a full-time basis, might be a viable option to consider, rather than selecting a person just because he or she already has experience in local government.

Naturally, it prompts the question: "How does a qualified person with potential gain experience, if they're not given the opportunity to serve, due to lack of experience?"

Joseph Caetano

Candidate for Tampa City Council District 7

There is only one candidate in the District 7 Tampa City Council race who has been helping solve North Tampa's problems for the past 20 years, and that's Joseph Caetano. Caetano has proved time and time again he is ready, willing and able to serve as our city councilman. Both as a successful businessman and citizens' advocate, Joseph Caetano fought for North Tampa to receive an extra ambulance and a new fire truck. Joseph Caetano will take that same determination to improve services to the City Council. The major difference between Joseph Caetano and the other candidates is Caetano's willingness to lower property taxes.

Please make the most informed decision on March 6 that will provide you with the necessities you deserve. Vote for Joseph Caetano.

I think Jeb Bush should be the write-in candidate for Dist. 7- his politics are a perfect fit for Tampa politics-small and self centered- Go Bush!!
