Sam Gilliam's extraordinary art has evolved through the decades, but the one constant has been his use of color in all its glorious rainbow range. His work can be seen in permanent collections of major museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Tate Modern and the Corcoran Gallery. See recent paintings and prints, two examples shown, at the University of Tampa's Scarfone/Hartley Gallery, 310 N Boulevard, Tampa, beginning Friday and continuing through March 29. Gilliam will attend the opening reception Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Gilliam will be at the university as a visiting artist working at STUDIO-f on a new series of monoprints that will join the current show beginning March 16. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.
