Shells Seafood RestaurantsInc.

The Tampa chain finished 2006 with a lackluster quarter, a loss and a dip in revenue. The company said it has reduced "controllable" costs such as food and labor, but is suffering from higher insurance, utility and occupancy costs. Customer satisfaction scores have risen, but Shells has not been able to draw large numbers of new customers to its 25 locations.

The Lakeland grocery chain, the state's largest, said quarterly sales decreased 3.2 percent, although the year-ago quarter was a week longer. Excluding the additional week in the fourth quarter of 2005, sales for the fourth quarter of 2006 would have increased by 3.8 percent. Comparable-store sales for the fourth quarter of 2006 increased 2.4 percent.
