Can't wait until March 13 to vote on extending the Penny for Pinellas sales tax or on your municipal elections? You're in luck. Early voting is under way, Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pinellas voters can cast early ballots at the Pinellas County Courthouse Elections Office, 315 Court St., Room 117, Clearwater; Election Services Center, 13001 Starkey Road, Largo; or the Elections Office in St. Petersburg, 501 First Ave. N. Bowl for Kids' Sake on Saturday

Feel like bowling? Big Brothers Big Sisters hopes you'll grab some friends and enter a team in Saturday's Bowl for Kids' Sake at AMF Clearwater Lanes, 1859 N. Abilities of Florida puts art on display

The creative abilities of people with disabilities will be on display during an open house from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today at Abilities of Florida, 2735 Whitney Road. The artwork is from classes taught by Creative Clay in St. Petersburg. Prices range from $20 to $200 and proceeds support Creative Clay's art classes. Call 538-7370, ext. 346.

Hearing set for leash law ideas

Two months after a toy poodle died after being mauled by an unleashed Labrador retriever at Hammock Park, the city of Dunedin has scheduled a public hearing for March 14 on enacting a tougher leash law. Among the ideas under consideration: requiring pets on public property to have a leash of 6 feet or less. The 7 p.m. meeting will be at the Dunedin Community Center, 1920 Pinehurst Road.

Cat in the Hat's 50; party will be nifty

Dr. Seuss' Cat in the Hat is getting a 50th birthday party Saturday at Book Bank USA at Largo Mall, 10500 Ulmerton Road, No. 360. The event will feature coloring activities, book reading and games. Call 588-0474.

Register Saturday for summer camp

Register the kids for summer camp Saturday at the city of Largo's Highland Recreation Complex, 400 Highland Ave. NE, or Southwest Recreation Complex, 13120 Vonn Road. Registration is from 8 a.m. to noon. Families can choose from more than 40 different camps, and mix and match camp locations and events that include sports, nature, dance, tennis academy and theater. Camp brochures are available at all Largo recreation facilities. Families must bring a child's recreation card valid at least through August, and a recent picture of the child. Why should early voting be allowed! We have a day set aside for elections and people who are not willing to make time that day should not be forwarded an opportunity to vote. Granted, voting is a right, but it does come with a bit of sacrifice.
