Site to list teachers' disciplinary action
By RON MATUS
Published March 3, 2007
Coming this fall: a Web site, www.myfloridateacher.com, that will allow parents to see whether state education officials ever took disciplinary action against their child's teacher. The number of teacher misconduct cases referred to the state rose from 2,908 in 2003-04 to 3,744 last year. Sometimes, misconduct is criminal. (Think Debra Lafave). Sometimes, it's sad. (Think of the Gibbs High teacher who falsified ballots for homecoming queen.) But before you get too click-happy, keep this in mind: The vast majority of teacher discipline cases are handled at the local level, either by the principal or by the school board. And school districts don't seem to be in any hurry to post that information on line.

Parent need to send children to school more prepared. Clean, well fed and with proper supplies. Parents also need to teach children respect, manners and to accept responsibilities for the actions. Children need to sit quiet and pay attention.Wake up

I'm all for a site where students and parents can rate teachers. With the strongest union in the nation, it's impossible to get rid of the bad ones -this might put pressure on principals and school boards to do something.

for college students they have rate my professor.com. I would be interested in a site where high school students can rate their teachers so I can see if what my kids are telling me about lazy, uncaring teachers is true.

What might be more revealing is a Web site that would allow teachers to see whether their students' parents have criminal records or have ever been investigated for child neglect/abuse.
