Stanton went to seminars as 'Susan'
By LORRI HELFAND
Published March 3, 2007
Wearing a woman's business suit and a "Susan" name tag, City Manager Steve Stanton attended at a least two sessions at a National League of Cities conference in Washington, D.C., last March. City Commissioner Andy Guyette, who also went to the conference, didn't see Stanton while the city manager was dressed as a woman. But he said Stanton's behavior at the conference is one reason he no longer trusts Stanton to run Largo City Hall. Guyette said he doesn't care that Stanton wants to be a woman, but he does care that Stanton misrepresented himself on the city's dime. Stanton said that what he was doing was appropriate for the process of making a transition to a woman. "It's part of the medical protocol to become comfortable with your own gender," Stanton said. Guyette said he didn't bring up the trip during Tuesday's meeting because "it was an ugly scene, and I didn't want it to get worse." But he said he needed to speak up because people have been unfairly condemning the commission for being intolerant. He said he couldn't find Stanton at the conference the first few days. He and Stanton met for dinner after Guyette contacted the city to track him down. Guyette said he didn't learn about Stanton's behavior at the conference until last week. He said Stanton told him that he had attended some of the sessions dressed as a woman and was sitting next to him. Stanton said Friday that he was dressed as a woman for a couple of seminars but did not sit next to Guyette. Stanton said that while dressed as Susan, he was unrecognizable and did not represent himself as a Largo employee. Guyette said his trust was betrayed. "He's been living a lie," he said.

Ummmm Lily, I can assure Mr. Guyette is living no lie. He is one of the most honest and selfless people I know. I believe his feelings are justified and are meant in no way to make him feel superior.

It is obivious that Mr. Guyette feeling of betrayal is misplaced. He is pointing his finger at Mr. Stauton to make hiself feel superior. I wonder what kind of lie Mr. Guyette has been living?
If "To thine ownself be true" has validity.Hats off to S S

Ditto, Greg. America needs to be aware of these agendas and be ready to challenge them. Political correctness and bigotry has become common words for actists trying to convince the people they don't have a choice in their opionins or values.

This whole situation is nothing more than a gay rights propaganda ploy. Now there is a plot to challange the ban on the rights of gay and lesbian adoptions. What Mr. Stanton is doing is immoral. Its not bigotry to speak against immorality but wise.

Guyette said his trust was betrayed. "He's been living a lie," he said. You have got to be kidding me. How does Guyette think Stanton feels having to live a lie his whole life. Kind of the point Guyette, hence the sex change.

This article brings out more the real reason Stanton was fired -- acting out his freak show fantasy while on city business. Bravo to the commission for seeing through the "victim" defense perpetuated by Stanton's militant GLBT supporters.

The story clearly shows the bigotry that exsists in some peoples minds and the lack of knowledge on their part. For good information and articles, I do recommend this site:

Tom writes "Is the basic DNA of the cells changed?" DNA is not what defines us publicly, not at work, nor at church, nor during fundraisers. Are you choosing DNA as a form of discrimination? Maybe "freedom" in America is a myth.

The DNA argument is a specious one- there are number of genetic variations to the XY/XX = male/female sex classifications, like XXY, XO, XYY and other intersex conditions that render people not genetically male or female *only*. Tom, read a book.

Again an ignorant attempt to "justify" a bigoted city council.

Guyette's pandering of the press to gain sympathies for his involvements in Stanton loosing his employment are beneath his position. He would do better to come out and admit that he (and other city officials)acted from trans-panic rather than reason.

Games people play.
Is there really such a thing as a sex change operation ? Or is it really one of these mind game things ? Is the basic DNA of the cells changed ?

Are the people of Largo suppose to accept whatever anyone wants to do when it affects others and how the city is represented? No one said stone the person just that they did not want the person representing them. Enough with the reverse intolerance.
