Gifted education support group meets Tuesday

PAGES of Hernando Partners Allied for Gifted Education and Support will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the cafeteria at Oak Hill Hospital, 11375 Cortez Blvd.

Auction for Knights' Ladies Auxiliary set

The Knights of Columbus 11317 Ladies Auxiliary will host its 12th annual auction March 24 in the parish hall at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 13485 Spring Hill Drive.

Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. The auction will include a variety of baskets and other items.

Breast cancer group will meet on Tuesday

A breast cancer support group will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Florida Cancer Institute, 7154 Medical Center Drive.

Bazaar will aid church missions worldwide

The women of United Methodist Church will have a flea market/bazaar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 17 in the fellowship hall, 9344 Spring Hill Drive. They will also sell hot dogs, doughnuts and refreshments for lunch.

Hijos de Davao will celebrate their city

The newly-formed Hijos de Davao will celebrate their founding and "Araw ng Dabaw" with a dinner-dance March 26 at Amvets Post 24, 247 Hallcrest Ave. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

Araw ng Dabaw roughly translates as "Day of Davao," which celebrates the founding of the city, which is in the southern Philippines.

The Hijos de Davao are those from the city Davao. All Davaoenos and friends are invited.

First have breakfast, then go to yard sale

The following events are planned at the Brookridge Clubhouse, 8150 Hampton St.

- All-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast, 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 11. Tickets are $4 at the door.

This is a fundraiser for Brookridge Helping Hands, a sewing and crochet group.

Funds will help purchase fabric and other materials for items such as blankets for the Linus Project, Hospice gowns, baby blankets and sweaters for the annual World's Greatest Baby Shower and skullcaps for soldiers in war zones. For information, call 597-7682.

COUNTYWIDE

Students can compete for music scholarships

Hernando County students in grades 9-12 are eligible to compete for three $500 scholarships from the Hernando Jazz Society's Scholarship and Music Assistance Program for private instrument or voice lessons.

Applications must be submitted by April 6. Auditions will be at 1 p.m. April 14 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1107 Commercial Way, in Spring Hill.

Applicants must perform a solo with accompaniment. The solo does not have to be a jazz style and the accompaniment can be live or recorded.

Winners will be asked to perform at the May 20 meeting of the Jazz Society.

Crafters needed for cultural festival

Crafters can sign up now to participate in the Hispanic Scholarship Civic and Cultural Foundation's annual Spanish Heritage Festival for Scholarships, set for Sept. 29 at the Hernando County Fairgrounds. 6436 S Broad St., Brooksville.

Outdoor and indoor booths are available. The cost is $45; for electricity, there is an additional $5 fee.
