Work planned on pipeline

Published March 3, 2007

Florida Gas Transmission employees and contractors will be working on its pipeline in the Royal Highlands area, north of Weeki Wachee, starting at noon Monday.

The work will require natural gas to be released into the atmosphere. Natural gas is considered harmless and is lighter than air, so it will rise into the atmosphere and dissipate.

Residents will, however, hear a very loud roar when the natural gas is released; the noise will last four to six hours. Residents also may smell the odorant added to the gas during this time.

Florida Gas is coordinating the work with the local fire department and emergency response officials, and has notified local authorities. For information, contact Brian Swearingen with Florida Gas Transmission at (407) 838-7612.
