Times writers earn APSE top-10 honors

St. Petersburg Times writers Dave Scheiber, Terry Tomalin and Stephen Nohlgren were recognized for outstanding work in explanatory and investigative reporting in contest judging by national sports editors last week.

Scheiber's story about racism in international soccer before last year's World Cup tournament earned him top-10 honors in explanatory sports journalism, as voted by the Associated Press Sports Editor's annual judging.

Tomalin and Nohlgren ranked in the top 10 among investigative entries for their ongoing coverage of the grouper industry.

Both entries advance to final judging in the spring.
