Frontier Park to mark 35th anniversary

Frontier Park will host its 35th anniversary celebration with various events March 8-11. Frontier is at 15549 Cortez Blvd. in Brooksville.

Events open to the public include:

- Country dance demonstration and participation, 5:45 to6:45 p.m. March 9. The demonstration will be presented by Cindy Wiley and Friends, who will also teach a few dances.

- Southern Reign Band will perform at 7 p.m. March 9. This is a concert and street dance. The roadway near the gazebo will be blocked off and a stage will be set up. There will be a raffle and door prizes. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase. In case of inclement weather, the dance will be in the clubhouse.

- Decorated Golf Cart Parade, 1 p.m. March 10. Residents will parade through the park in their decorated golf carts, competing for first, second and third place prizes. Golf carts do not have to be decorated to participate. Spectators are welcome.

- David Onan and the Florida Diplomat Quartet in concert, 7 p.m. March 11, in the clubhouse. The group performs gospel music. Seating will be limited.

On March 9, the main entrance to Frontier will be closed from 4 p.m. to midnight; those entering the park must use the gate by the Dumpster.

Rotary Club's annual auction set March 24

The Brooksville Rotary Club will conduct its 29th annual "Live on Air" Radio Auction from 1 to 6 p.m. March 24, and will be broadcast from Cortez Community Bank on WWJB 1450 AM radio.

The auction will include new merchandise and services valued at more than $40,000; the Rotary Club plans to list all merchandise and services to be auctions in local newspapers closer to the event.

Those wishing to place bids can listen to WWJB during the auction and place their bids that day by calling 799-5885. The items being auctioned and the successful bidders will be mentioned on air.

All proceeds will go into the Rotary Clubs Charitable Trust. For information, call Don Page at 799-6000.

Designers Touch Dinner is March 12

After Five Connection (Christian Women's Club) invites area women to a Designers Touch Dinner from 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 12 at the Heather Golf and Country Club, 7406 St. Andrews Blvd.

The special feature will be Tatouage, presented by Linda Higgins. Tatouage is a decorative art that can be transferred to walls, pottery and other areas.

The speaker will be Ann Combs from Ocoee, who will share "Life's Ever Changing Tapestry."

COUNTYWIDE

Students can compete for music scholarships

Hernando County students in grades 9-12 are eligible to compete for three $500 scholarships from the Hernando Jazz Society's Scholarship and Music Assistance Program for private instrument or voice lessons.

Applications must be submitted by April 6. Auditions will be at 1 p.m. April 14 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1107 Commercial Way, in Spring Hill.

Applicants must perform a solo with accompaniment. The solo does not have to be a jazz style and the accompaniment can be live or recorded.

Winners will be asked to perform at the May 20 meeting of the Jazz Society.

BROOKSVILLE

slots available for market on main street

Vendor spaces are available for the next Market on Main Street, which will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 17. The market is along Main Street, between Broad and Liberty streets, and in the city parking lot next to 31 S Main St.

Vendors may sell a variety of items, such as antiques and collectibles, produce, shrubbery and gifts. Spaces are $15 per month or $50 for four months. Applications are available online at www.brooksvillebusiness.com. For more information, call the Brooksville Business Alliance at 797-9330.
