Writer's exchange with Coach K gets testy
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and a national columnist for CBSsportsline.com, Gregg Doyel, had quite the exchange on Monday's ACC coaches teleconference.
By BRIAN LANDMAN
Published March 6, 2007
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski and a national columnist for CBSsportsline.com, Gregg Doyel, had quite the exchange on Monday's ACC coaches teleconference. Krzyzewski had said that if he thought Gerald Henderson had intentionally tried to hurt Tyler Hansbrough, he would have suspended him for more than one game. That prompted this: DOYEL: Mike, you made it clear after the game and then just now, some conduct is unacceptable and you would hold your players to higher standards. I'm just wondering how many games did you suspend Christian Laettner for when he stomped on (Kentucky's) Aminu Timberlake? KRZYZEWSKI: Would you call that a stomp? DOYEL: Absolutely. I've seen it over and over. KRZYZEWSKI: Okay. Then my judgment and yours differ. DOYEL: I've got some glasses, are you serious? KRZYZEWSKI: I'm not going to get in (it) with you because you would always want something controversial. DOYEL: I'd just like the truth sometimes, that's all. KRZYZEWSKI: Believe me, nobody who likes the truth more than me. After the season, we'll talk about 1992. I'd rather talk about 2007 right now.

I saw the game, and the stomp, which they replayed. No question it was intentional. "Jealous?" Get over yourself

"Look at Coach K's track record: the most recent incident is typical of him"
Really? 2 incidents over the past 26 years makes it typical? Interesting. Especially since the recent one was just a hard foul that the victim has forgiven as basketball

Doyel was, is and always will be an idiot. He is an instigator and CBSsportsline needs to reel him in. Too bad John Chaney couldn't get his hands around his neck!

If you really want the truth Greg, CHECK OUT YOUR OWN ARCHIVE @ CBS. Did Dan Rather teach you to forge documents as well, GREG?

Just like UNC to slam the ball today with .8 seconds left to run the score up! Classless, tasteless hacks. Coach K is a genius, period. UNC's first title since '98...for the record when you play like that you get hard fouls against you..end of story.

Then what did rat face see. I guess when someone looks down and steps on someone's stomach its not intentional its an accident. To think that he is respected is beyond me. At least Doyel sees past the Duke aura and shoots it straight.

Gregg Doyel is the epitomy of poor journalism. His reputation is built on negative reporting. Why any reputable media company would have such a loser on their staff, is beyond me. I always get a good laugh when I read his articles about Duke.

You can't trust anything Doyle writes about Coach K because he has a personal vendette against him. Coach K didn't support the "biography" Doyle wrote. Obviously, Coach K recognized Doyle for what he is ... a no-talent hack.

Coach K is a phoney??? Doyle is a nobody. The only reason he keeps ragging on Coach K is because thats the only way he can make a name for himself. 90% of his work is wasted toward attacking duke and coach K with no good arguements. What a moron.

You know a team must be good when non-ACC fans from all over the country and supposedly non-biased sportswriters are all over them for two incidents 15 years apart in a coach's 26 years at a school. It's very hard to take your arguments seriously.

Look at Coach K's track record: the most recent incident is typical of him. That's why Doyel brought up the Laettner incident. Coach K ran from it then, and he runs from it now. Those who have their heads up Coach K's behind need to come up for air

Whoever said that Laenttner didn't stomp Timberlake is either blind or mentally handicap. Any logical person who saw that play knows what Laetnner did and that he did it on purpose...including Coach K.

Hire a "sports writer", give him a word processor and he suddenly becomes a basketball "expert" How many awards (national sports writing championships)
has Doyel ever won? None. So why should we care what he has to say. He is to be ignored.

I was at the Duke-KY game, and have seen the replay many times. Laettner stepped on Timberlake's stomach, and Timberlake jumped up laughing and smiling. There was no "stomp."

You Duke people will defend anything. I think it's pretty obvious that Laettner stomped and that Henderson should definitely be suspended for one game. Maybe what they say is right- If Duke does it, it's OK. But if someone else does it, it's not OK.

Just look at K's reaction and Wojo's reaction when they believed Magloire put Wojo in a Figure Leg-Lock in the 1998 Regional Finals in St Pete. Coach K is like Hillary Clinton. For some reason, the media is not allowed to criticize them. HANDS OFF.

Coach Kry Baby needs to retire. He and his players are an embarrasment to the college game. The thing with Henderson is just one more reason why the entire nation HATES dUKe!! More writers (and ref's for that matter) need to stand up to coach Krybaby

Whenever Gregg Doyel plays any kind of competitive sport, he can talk to Coach K. Until then, he can sit at his desk and watch all of the seasons of Star Trek that he has on dvd. Somebody tell Doyel he can stop arguing, "Transformers" comes out soon.

People like Gregg Doyel look for reasons to criticize people like Coach K and programs like Duke. He is a snake waiting in the grass! How about we compare Coach K's accolades to his? How many honors has this guy (Doyel) been given? What a loon!!!
