TAMPA - Police arrested a former Tampa Bay Buccaneers player Monday on drug and driving charges, jail records show. Shevin J. Smith, 31, of 10110 Farmingdale Place faces charges of possessing cocaine and drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended or revoked license. SEFFNER - A man robbed a Colonial Bank Monday afternoon and escaped before Hillsborough sheriff's deputies arrived. He walked into the bank on 1707 S Parsons Ave. with a handgun at 3:18 p.m., and demanded money from a teller. He received an undisclosed amount of money and fled into the parking lot, where the dye pack exploded. He kept running and escaped in a car parked at a nearby Pizza Hut. Detectives recovered some money and will count it to see if the robber got away with any. The robber is described as a Hispanic male, 5 feet 9, 180 pounds, with dark hair, wearing a white T-shirt, dark pants and a gray baseball cap. He was seen driving a white vehicle that looked like a 1990s Toyota Camry with tinted windows. LITHIA - An anonymous tip led Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies to a two-story barn, where they discovered $100,000 worth of marijuana and an additional $100,000 worth of equipment used to grow it. At 11112 Browning Road, they found about 180 marijuana plants, large boxes of marijuana in the drying stages and about 50 bags of Hydroton, used in hydroponic growing. The barn was complete with two new air-conditioning units, ventilation and an expensive lighting system. The second floor was being renovated so the barn could expand operations, detectives say. They arrested 46-year-old Barbara Brito De la Torre and charged her with trafficking in marijuana, conspiracy to traffic in marijuana and cultivation of marijuana.
