Mother charged with violating her probation

MOTHER CHARGED WITH VIOLATING HER PROBATION

RENEE DAIGLE, WHOSE TODDLER SON DROWNED IN THE FAMILY'S SWIMMING POOL IN 2004, WAS ARRESTED MONDAY ON CHARGES OF VIOLATING HER PROBATION. SHE WAS SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS PROBATION IN SEPTEMBER AFTER ENTERING A PLEA FOR CHILD NEGLECT. DAIGLE WAS ORIGINALLY CHARGED WITH MANSLAUGHTER AND CHILD ABUSE IN THE AUG. 26, 2004, DEATH OF HER 22-MONTH-OLD SON, JASON SCHAEFER JR. SHE TOLD INVESTIGATORS SHE FELL ASLEEP AFTER LEAVING JASON IN THE LIVING ROOM. WHEN SHE AWOKE TWO HOURS LATER, SHE FOUND JASON'S BODY FLOATING IN THE FAMILY'S POOL. THE ARREST WARRANT MONDAY INDICATED SHE WAS ARRESTED AT THE PROBATION OFFICE BUT GAVE NO DETAILS.

United Way seeks review volunteers

The United Way of Citrus County seeks community volunteers to help review local nonprofit organizations that seek affiliation and funding. Volunteers work to conduct site visits of agencies, review program goals and results and make a recommendation to the United Way board of directors for future funding. Here's what's involved: a one-hour orientation March 15, five hours visiting six or seven agencies, and about six hours one evening in April hearing presentations and preparing recommendations. Comments sought on accreditation

The public has a chance to comment to the accrediting agency that is reviewing the Sheriff's Office's communications department. Call 527-7087 between 1 and 5 p.m. Monday and a member of the assessment team will listen to comments about the sheriff's 911 center. Comments should be limited to five minutes and should concern the agency's ability to meet accreditation standards. For information about those standards, call sheriff's spokeswoman Gail Tierney at 726-4488, ext. 311. The accrediting agency is the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. Friends of Library plans book sale

Friends of the Floral City Library will hold a book sale from 5 to 9 p.m. March 16 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 17 at Hilton Hall on Marvin Street, across from Floral City Elementary School. Admission is $3 March 16 but free March 17. Proceeds go to the Floral City Library.
