Daylight savings time starts March 11 and the change will affect some aspects of our technology-driven world.

This weekend, our technology-driven world could fall out of sync, causing missed appointments, crossed lines of communication and potential headaches. Daylight saving time, used for decades to conserve energy, starts three weeks earlier on March 11 and ends one week later on Nov. 4 for all states except Hawaii and most of Arizona. Technology may not be ready but we have some helpful tips to get your electronics through springing forward. Windows Windows Vista: No issues. Windows XP: Received automatic update. If not, go to update.microsoft.com. Older than Windows XP: In Control Panel with Date and Time, unclick "automatically adjust the clock for daylight-saving time" and adjust clock manually March 11. Desktop-based calendars: Download Time Zone Data Update Tool at microsoft.com Info.: microsoft.com/dst2007 Hand-held devices Blackberry: Download update at blackberry.com/dst2007. New Treo smartphones: No issues. Windows Mobile phones: Download update at support.microsoft.com/kb/923953 Other Palm machines: Working on update. Until then manually update clock March 11 in CityTime or WorldClock applications. Cell phones: Automatically reset. Macintosh Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.3: Received an automatic update. If not, go to apple icon at top left of screen, click Software Update. Mac OS X systems below 10.3: Adjust clock in System Preferences with Date & Time. Users of Mac OS 9.2 or earlier: In Date and Time panel, unclick "observe Daylight Saving Time changes automatically" and adjust clock manually March 11.
