Laundry room blaze under investigation

A Monday evening fire damaged a laundry building behind the Bella Oasis Hotel, 4076 S Suncoast Blvd. (U.S. 19). No one was injured. The state Fire Marshall's Office is investigating; as of Tuesday afternoon, the cause and origin of the fire were unknown, according to Patty Jefferson with Citrus County Fire Rescue.

Starting today, call it Sweetbay

The Kash n' Karry on U.S. 19 gets a new name and look today as the grocery store becomes a Sweetbay Supermarket. The store, at 4500 S Suncoast Blvd. (U.S. 19), is one of three Kash n' Karrys in Citrus that will be transformed into Sweetbays this year. Sweetbay was launched in November 2004 and Kash n' Karry will cease to exist by mid 2007. The new stores will provided an expanded selection of food and a customer friendly culture, Sweetbay said in a news release.


Man accused of enticing teen girl

An Inglis man was arrested Tuesday morning and accused of enticing a 13-year-old girl to commit a lewd act. Paul A. Fried, 41, was booked into the Citrus County jail on one count of soliciting a person younger than 16 to commit a lewd or lascivious act. The arrest report said Fried, who knows the girl, enticed her to masturbate during telephone conversations. Authorities became involved and were present about 8:45 a.m. Tuesday when Fried arrived at the girl's home, expecting to find her alone. He was held without bail.


Dog that bit girl at drive-in sought

A girl was bitten by a brown Labrador retriever about 8 p.m. Friday while in the parking lot of Sonic Drive-In, 11351 N Williams St. (U.S. 41 N.) The dog belongs to a customer and was riding in a red truck when the incident occurred. If the dog is not located the child will have to have rabies shots. If you have any information on a dog of this description you are asked to call Citrus County Animal Services at 726-7660.


No electric bill aid: Department broke

Citrus County Housing has rescinded its offer for electric bill assistance; the department is out of money. For information, call 527-5377.


Detention facility ceremony Friday

The ribbon cutting ceremony of the Citrus County Detention Facility expansion is scheduled at 3 p.m. Friday, 2604 W Woodland Ridge Drive. The public is invited.
