TRIP TO ORLANDO FEATURES ROCKET LAUNCH AND FILM

Gulf Coast Academy seventh- and eighth-graders witnessed a spectacular rocket launch by the Orlando Rocket Enthusiast Club on March 3. They dined at the Coney Island Drive-In and saw the debut of the feature film The Astronaut Farmer.

Pine Grove has movie night Friday

Pine Grove Elementary PTA's Family Movie Night is at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the cafeteria. The SAC meeting in the media center is at 3:45 p.m. March 15. All interested parents and community members are invited. Teacher Appreciation Week is March 26-30.

Fathers treated to special breakfast

Wider Horizons School's annual Fathers' Breakfast is 8 a.m. Friday at the school for fathers, grandfathers or father figures to students. Each class prepares breakfast for their guests, along with a special gift. Children serve and sit down to breakfast with their guests.

Christian academy has first Jamboree

Hernando Christian Academy is having its inaugural Jamboree at 6:30 p.m. March 30. There will lots of food and fun at the event, which will be in the gym.

Students make movie on pledge

Suncoast Elementary first- and second-graders put together a joint reading/writing/social studies/technology project. They made a movie based on the book I Pledge Allegiance by Bill Martin Jr. The students used choral readings, set designs and costumes to explain what the words mean when they say the pledge each day. The movie will be on CD for families and also distributed to troops in Iraq.

Student to visit nation's capital

Joshua Hughes, 13, a seventh-grade honor student at West Hernando Middle, was accepted to the People to People World Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C. Joshua will visit Washington for a week this month, exploring Capitol Hill, the Smithsonian Institution, Williamsburg and the National Museum of American History. He'll participate in small-group discussions and exercises for high school credit. The selection is based on outstanding scholastic merit, civic involvement and leadership potential.

Motorcycle champ to visit high school

Nature Coast Technical's car shows have garnered the attention of motivational speaker and Pro-Stock motorcycle champion Steve Johnson. He'll come to Nature Coast on March 15 to address students about making good choices. McLaughlin boys win quarterfinals

Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School's boys soccer team won 2-1 in the regional quarterfinals against Indian Rocks Christian in February.

Open registration at Notre Dame

Notre Dame Catholic School open registration for the 2007-2008 school year began this week. The administration also reminds parents to sign up for their required volunteer hours. For information, contact the school at 683-0755.
