Fire department gets grant for training system

COUNTYWIDE

Halcyon Underwriters Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Brown and Brown Inc., and Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. will award a $20,965 grant to Citrus County Fire Rescue for an incident command and emergency response training and planning system. The NIMS City Tabletop ICS Training System allows multiple agencies to participate in emergency drills, which better prepares them for working together during large-scale incidents like hurricanes. The grant will also pay for five officers to enroll in the 2007 National Fire Service Staff and Command course, which is designed to enhance their leadership skills and knowledge of emergency management.

Seminar focuses on bettering life

Life Stream Behavioral Center and the Department of Children and Families are presenting a special training seminar next week. The Wellness Recovery Action Plan is designed to help people with mental health and substance abuse challenges. Anyone wishing to receive training in this program may attend the session free of charge. It will be from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wildwood Community Center, 6500 County Road 139, Wildwood. Ceremony set for new jail section

The ribbon cutting for the newly built section of the Citrus County jail will be at 3 p.m. today. The jail is at 2604 W Woodland Ridge Drive.

Brown-Waite office plans help meeting

Staff members from U.S. Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite's office will host a constituent outreach meeting from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday in the Veterans Affairs conference room, Citrus County Resource Center, 2804 W Marc Knighton Court. During the meeting, Brown-Waite's staffers will explain how to get in touch with the Congress member, offer general assistance and information, and outline what services are available through the office.

Two Miss Citrus pageants Saturday

The Miss Citrus and Miss Teen Citrus pageants will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Citrus County Auditorium, 3600 S Florida Ave. (U.S. 41). Admission is $5.
