Diversions: Coming attractions

Sunday, March 18 AND 25

Nature Coast Festival Singers will present a spring concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Nativity Lutheran Church, 6363 Commercial Way U.S. 19 in Weeki Wachee just north of the State Road 50 intersection; at 3 p.m. on March 18 at the First United Methodist Church, 8831 West Bradshaw Blvd., Homosassa; and at 3 p.m. March 25 in the First United Methodist Church, 9344 Spring Hill Dr., Spring Hill. Admission is free, but a donation for the scholarship fund will be accepted.

Wednesday and Thursday

Frank Parson's Big Band will play "St. Patrick Celebration" at 2 p.m. at Richey Suncoast Theatre, 6237 Grand Blvd., New Port Richey. Tickets are $7. (Note that a second concert has been added at 2 p.m. Thursday.) Future shows are on April 18 and May 16. Call (727) 842-6777.

Wednesday

As part of Women's History Month, Lois Peterson will speak about her experiences as a teacher in a Saudi palace, "Under That Abaya - One Woman's Account of a Saudi Palace," from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Hudson Regional Library, 8012 Library Road, Hudson (off Fivay Road between Little Road and Hudson Avenue). The talk is free, but registration is requested, either at the reference desk or call (727) 861-3040 and ask for the reference desk. Refreshments, courtesy of the Friends of the Hudson Library, will have a Middle Eastern theme.

FRIDAY

The rarely-seen opera A Village Romeo and Juliet will be presented in video by the Centennial Opera Group at 12:30 p.m. March 16 at the Centennial Park Library, 5740 Moog Road, Holiday. The opera is by Frederick Delius, who once managed his family's citrus grove near Jacksonville and later composed Florida Suite as a tribute to the state. Admission is free.

FRIDAY

The Santa Fe Guitar Quartet from Argentina will perform classical to Tango music at 7 p.m. at the Pasco-Hernando Community College Center for the Arts, 10230 Ridge Rd., New Port Richey. Tickets are $16 and $18. Call (727) 816-3707.

Friday, March 17 AND 18

Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical will be presented at Richey Suncoast Theatre, 6237 Grand Blvd., New Port Richey, at 8 p.m. Friday and March 17 and 2:30 p.m. March 18. Performers are Salerno Theatre Co. of Tampa. Tickets are $15 adults, $12 Richey Suncoast Theatre season ticket holders, and $8 ages 12 and younger. The box office will be open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays starting Feb. 14 and an hour before each show.

MARCH 18

A violin and piano concert to benefit the Charlotte Murrin Memorial Suzuki Education Foundation will be presented from 2 to 4 p.m. March 18 at the Silverthorn Country Club, 4550 Golf Club Lane, Spring Hill. Tickets are $15. Proceeds will fund music scholarships and be used to buy musical instruments for those who cannot afford them. MARCH 19

Rockers Sha Na Na: The group that revived 1950s music in the 1970s (Rock and Roll Is Here to Stay) will do dinner shows at 1:30 and 8 p.m. at the Show Palace Dinner Theatre, 16128 U.S. 19, Hudson. Betty Jean Steinshouer portraying Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings will be presented by Friends of the Pasco County Library System at a luncheon from noon to 2:30 p.m. March 19 at Spartan Manor, 6121 Massachusetts Ave., New Port Richey. Lunch and show, $20 for the public, $10 for Friends of the Library members. Deadline to make reservations is 5 p.m. March 9. MARCH 21-APRIL 1

Avenue Players Theatre will present Noel Coward's farce Blithe Spirit at Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art, 600 Klosterman Road, Tarpon Springs. Performances are at 7 p.m. March 21, 22, 23, 29 and 30 and 2 p.m. March 24, 25 and 31 and April 1. Tickets are $11 for non-members of the museum, $8 for students and members. Call (727) 712-5762. A mini-tour of the museum 30 minutes before the show is included in the price of the ticket.

MARCH 22-APRIL 1

Chasco Fiesta: Pasco County's biggest festival will take place in and around downtown New Port Richey. The festival honors the area's American Indian heritage with the Native American Festival presented by members of several tribes and features a different type of music every night, special food events, a street parade, car show, flea market, golf and softball tournaments, bicycle tours, kayak races, arts and crafts, boat parade, and fun runs.

MARCH 22-25

Heritage Pines Players will present the comedy Lend Me a Tenor at 7 p.m. March 22 and 23 and 2 p.m. March 25 at Heritage Pines Performing Arts Center, 11524 Scenic Hills Dr., Hudson. Tickets are $8, available at the Heritage Pines front desk or by phone at (727) 861-7784.

Women artists will be featured in "A Woman's Work Is Never Done" at the Progress Energy Art Gallery, 6231 Grand Blvd., New Port Richey. The gallery is open noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturdays. Free.

'Waiting for Guacamole,' an exhibit of avocado images by Elizabeth Indianos, will be at the Pasco-Hernando Community College Art Gallery at the east end of the campus library building, 10230 Ridge Road, New Port Richey. Inquire at the library desk to admittance to the exhibit.

Through MARCH 22

ArtBeat 2007, featuring work by Pasco high school students, will be at the Pasco Arts Council's art center, 5744 Moog Road, Holiday. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. An awards reception is 5 to 7 p.m. March 9.

MARCH 23 AND 24

Spring Fest 2007 in Dade City will open with the "Fools for Fine Arts" preview party and artists' reception from 7 to 10 p.m. March 23 at Kafe Kokopelli, 37940 Live Oak Ave., Dade City. Tickets are $20 for members of Downtown Dade City Main Street and $25 for non-members. Call (352) 567-0284. The outdoor Spring Fest is from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. March 24 around the Historic Courthouse in downtown. The festival features arts, fine crafts, live jazz (Valerie Gillespie, the Wayne Pearson Sextet and Denise Moore), children's art activities and food vendors. Admission is free.
