COUNTYWIDE Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today. At the top of the ballot across Pinellas County: Whether to extend, from 2010 to 2020, the Penny for Pinellas sales tax - the 17-year-old penny per dollar sales tax that funds infrastructure needs. Safety Harbor and Tarpon Springs will also choose a mayor today; Belleair, Belleair Bluffs, Clearwater, Oldsmar and Tarpon Springs will choose new City Council or City Commission members; and voters in Clearwater will decide on a pair of ballot questions, including whether to build a city-backed boat slip project downtown. SAFETY HARBOR Author to present literary collection Novelist Marian Coe will present her seventh book, Between Us, an original collection of women's voices sharing moments from life, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Safety Harbor Public Library, 101 Second St. N. LARGO Convention looks at anime, manga The Largo Public Library, 120 Central Park Drive, will host a free anime and manga miniconvention for Tampa Bay area teens from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. March 24. The convention's theme is "Metal vs. Magic". Dress-up is encouraged, but not required. The activities include Cosplay (contest), the anime film ParaPara, introduction to fan-essential Japanese and a picture station. CLEARWATER Preserve campaign kicks off Thursday Brooker Creek Preserve advocates, led by the Suncoast Sierra Club of Pinellas County, will kick off the "Preserve the Preserve" campaign with Craig Huegel at 7 p.m. Thursday at Moccasin Lake Nature Park, 2750 Trail Park Lane. Huegel formerly oversaw Pinellas County's environmentally sensitive lands, including the preserve, which is under increasing developmental pressures. Call 526-5065.
