Captain's Corner

What's hot: Large schools of redfish continue to be the main target. I have noticed pressure on these schools. Redfish have become spooked and need to be targeted with extreme care; they are slow to react to baits. The longer I waited in one spot, the more fish I caught.

What's hot: Large schools of redfish continue to be the main target. I have noticed pressure on these schools. Redfish have become spooked and need to be targeted with extreme care; they are slow to react to baits. The longer I waited in one spot, the more fish I caught.

Bait: When fish won't bite, shrimp is the top choice. I pinch the tail off and put the hook through the last section for a long cast.

Tactics: Don't spook schools by running the outboard motor when approaching or using the trolling motor at high speed. Also, avoid anchoring close to other boats. This leaves no room to fight a hooked fish and causes tangled lines.
