TAMPA - The Bucs on Tuesday signed cornerback Sammy Davis, a first-round pick (30th overall) of the Chargers in 2003 who was traded to the 49ers last season.
Davis, 26, played in 13 games with one start last season, totaling 30 tackles and six passes defensed. He joins a long list of signed cornerbacks, including Ronde Barber, Brian Kelly, Phillip Buchanon and Torrie Cox. With Kelly expected to return from a turf toe injury next season, there should be a good battle for the nickelback spot with Juran Bolden, who also could be asked to move to safety.
The Bucs also announced the signing of 49ers free-agent defensive tackle Lance Legree, former Raiders defensive tackle Kenny Smith and receiver Levon Thomas, a member of the Saints practice squad the past two seasons.
Meanwhile, former Titans guard Zach Piller, a St. Petersburg native, visited the Bucs on Tuesday but was not offered a contract. Pillar has started 58 of 87 games. The Bucs have expressed an interest in Broncos guard Cooper Carlisle, but no visit has been scheduled, according to his agent, Frank Murtha. Tampa Bay is looking for a guard to replace Sean Mahan, who signed with the Steelers.
Carolina free-agent linebacker Chris Draft is scheduled to visit Thursday. The Bucs could be looking for a middle linebacker to replace Shelton Quarles, who might be forced to retire because of health concerns.
The Bucs might want to cross one free agent off their list. Seahawks tight end Jerramy Stevens, who visited the Bucs last week, was arrested Tuesday in Scottsdale, Ariz., and charged with driving under the influence and possession of marijuana.
Fired Bucs defensive backs coach Greg Burns has been hired to coach the same position with Kansas State.

This is only my comments. I think the Bucs need to come the money and get some real players this season. I remember when we had the number one defense and Chucky came along and rip it from the pitts and we have never been the same. We need sapp lynch

Take a chance on Mike Doss even if he is still rehabing his knee. The guy is a head hunter. Remember Tony Dungy drafted him!!!!

I am pretty impressed with how the Bucs have done this offseason and I think that Bruce Allen is doing his part as manager. Hey Bruce! Look at Briggs in Chi-town!!!!

Know bringing in older players. But last year we all said we were to young. I got sick of leaving RayJay after loseing. I was ready fo Chucky to go. But he is our coach and I will support him for at least nine games. Go Bucs!

Here Iam again. and my opions, I think that Tampa Bay will address in the off season just like the other 31 teams. I think Tampa is ahead of the game on several teams in our own division. I think with Garcia on board. He is a veteran with leadership.

Ya, agreed. The Bucs will probably up the offer to Stevens now that he got busted. Thats the one thing I can stand about not having Dungy and McKay around. You knew if they got into trouble off the field, they were gone.

Good job, keep focusing to fill the defense with young talent. Please no more 30 year olds, who are on the downfall. Also please get some speed, most of the Bucs defenders are pretty slow.

Can anyone spell MORAN...dude, that's what free agents are, retreads...if they weren't they'd be rookies, but we haven't got that far have we. Excuse the Bucs for not prying last seasons top 10 picks from their respective teams. STUPID PEOPLE!

Are you kidding? You say the Bucs might want to cross Stevens off their list because of his arrest? That makes him an automatic signing for Gruden!

The price for a player w/ a franchise tag like Lance Briggs is huge. Memo to the Buc's: Make a smart deal...

Buc's continue to settle for mediocre. Maybe Sammy Davis can find the form that made him a #1 pick 4 years ago. We'll see. How about making a deal for Chicago LB Lance Briggs. He wants out! He's 26 and the best LB in the league. Now that's an upgrade

Bucs need a lot more if Kelly doesnt heal from his turf toe. BOLDEN IS THE WEAKEST LINK IN THE SECONDARY.

Third team already. Doesn't sound like a quality player. Desperation is the name of the game for the Bucs.
