Relay for Life events include carwash

BROOKSVILLE

RELAY FOR LIFE EVENTS INCLUDE CARWASH

The following programs and events have been scheduled for the Brooksville Relay for Life:

-A committee meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Monday, followed by a team meeting at 6 p.m., in the Sara Alice Bronson Family Life Center at Faith Presbyterian Church, 200 Mount Fair Ave., Brooksville. Another committee and team meeting will be April 16, same time and location. Call Janie Wiley at 544-7098.

-Benefit carwash, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 24 and 25, Wal-Mart Supercenter, 13300 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill. The cost is $5 per car. The carwash is hosted by the Spring Hill Publix Relay for Life Team. Call Rose Wilson, (727) 992-3301.

-Survivor reception, 2 to 4 p.m. March 29, at Faith Presbyterian Church, 200 Mount Fair Ave., Brooksville. Food will be provided by the Hernandough Caterers of Hernando High School. There will be games and door prizes. All cancer survivors are invited to this free reception. Reservations are required by Thursday. Call Patricia Giurtino toll-free at 1-800-940-1969, ext. 106.

The Brooksville Relay for Life will be May 4-5 at Hernando High School, 700 Bell Ave., Brooksville. New teams and members are welcome. For information, call Janie Wiley at 544-7098. Information on the American Cancer Society is available online at www.cancer.org.

Sign up by April 2 for vendor spaces at fair

Vendor spaces are available for the Hernando County Fair and Youth Livestock Show, which will be April 20-29 at the Hernando County Fairgrounds, 6436 S Broad St.

A limited number of indoor and outdoor spaces are available. Completed applications must be received by the fairgrounds office no later than April 2, and must include a picture of the booth or display.

Hospice to hold volunteer training

Hernando-Pasco Hospice will host a two-part volunteer training program from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 21 and 23 at 698 S Broad St.

The training is for those interested in visiting with patients, providing a few hours of rest for primary caregivers or assisting with clerical functions in one of the agency's two team offices in Hernando County.

Hospice is a nonprofit organization that provides care for individuals affected by a life-limiting illness in the comfort of their own home, at its Hospice Care Center in a private wing at Brooksville Healthcare Center, in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, or at the Hospice House in Spring Hill.

Volunteers need only give a few hours a week.

Preregistration for the training is required. Call Anne Clarke, volunteer coordinator, at 796-2611.

SPRING HILL

Buy tickets soon for Philippines celebration

Thursday is the deadline to buy tickets to a dinner dance to celebrate "Araw ng Dabaw" and the founding of the newly formed Hijos de Davao. The event will be at 6 p.m. March 24 at Amvets Post 24, 247 Hallcrest Ave.

Araw ng Dabaw roughly translates as "Day of Davao," which celebrates the founding of the city, which is in the southern Philippines. The Hijos de Davao are those from the city Davao. All Davaoenos and friends are invited. Tickets are $20. For tickets or reservations, call Gail at 666-0666, Shella at 686-7813, Lito at 688-2771 or Nanette at 263-2370.
