France continues to rely heavily on nuclear power plants. What do the French do with their nuclear waste and spent fuel rods? The French National Agency for Radioactive Waste Management is responsible for the waste. There are three disposal sites in France: the Manche facility in Beaumont-Hague, which was open from 1969-1994; the Aube waste disposal facility in Soulaines, which receives short-lived, low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste; and the VLLW disposal facility in Morvilliers, which receives very low-level radioactive waste.
