Art
Nibble the range of Stanley Mouse's art
By LENNIE BENNETT
Published March 15, 2007
Stanley Mouse had the right vibe - and a great name - for the times. In the 1960s, he became something of the house graphic artist for Bill Graham's legendary Fillmore and Avalon ballrooms in San Francisco. Along with other artists, such as the very famous Peter Max, he perfected an art nouveau style in service to fantastical promotions for bands such as the Grateful Dead. Today it's iconic and instantly recognizable. Davidson Fine Art (725 Central Ave., St. Petersburg), a gallery and frame shop, has a collection of paintings, prints and drawings by Mouse on view through Wednesday. It has a few vintage posters and newer prints that invoke those years, but most works represent Mouse's forays into more formal and traditional figurative art, such as this painting, Merav with Red Dress. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
