Cassidy Rash threw a no-hitter for Crystal River last Saturday in the Pirates' 1-0 win over Belleview.

It is the first no-hitter for the junior right-handed pitcher this season. She has three career shutouts.

PLAYMAKER: Crystal River catcher Quincy Wilson is on pace to eclipse the number of RBIs she recorded as a junior. Thirteen games into this season, the senior has 19 RBIs with a little more than a month to play. Last year she recorded 23 total. Wilson, who is hitting .463, also leads the squad in doubles with nine.

Wilson also is a defensive standout for the Pirates. She calls Rash's pitches and runs the infield. The Pirates are 7-0 in Class 4A, District 6 and 10-3 overall.

"She's our field general," coach Justin Wentworth said. "Everything goes through her."

TURN IT UP: Crystal River is getting a boost from Amanda Mayer, who is hitting 100 points higher than she did last year. Mayer is batting .330 with nine RBIs so far.

PUTTING IT TOGETHER: Lecanto, which had most of its team participating in three sports this year, is trying to piece together a focused squad. The Panthers were 2-4 in 4A-6 and 4-6 overall as of Wednesday.

"We're just now getting into some form of an identity," coach Robert Dupler said. "We're not sure what that's going to be yet."

When the Panthers are on, they're tough to beat, Dupler said. They can bat seven players an inning. But when they're struggling, it's not quite as pretty. Dupler hopes the tournament at Bell this weekend will help the Panthers get focused.

Lecanto's slugging leaders are Raina Johnson, Kaylah Hall, Amanda Dixon and Rachel Tirpack.

INJURED: Brittany Dehoff is handling centerfield for Crystal River while Katelyn McNally recovers from a hand injury. McNally could return in 15 days.
