Two community theater productions take on family matters in Citrus this weekend. Opening at the Art Center Theater today is Wife Begins at Forty, which tells the story of a woman who faces life and divorce at 40. Although a comedy, this play deals with the universal issue of dissatisfaction in marriage. After 17 years of marriage, Betty Harper Cheryl Charles announces she must have her freedom. After trying to appease her in a comic and painful fashion, it is her husband, George (Howard "Styx" Christ), who must leave. Things heat up again around the holiday season. George returns home and tries to rekindle the home fires. The rest of the cast includes Claudine Dervaes as Linda, Herman Eberhardt as Bernard, Alan Jones as Roger and Michael Shier as Leonard. - TRUE WEST: The play continues through Sunday at Playhouse 19, 865 U.S. 19 S, Crystal River. It tells of brothers Austin, a Hollywood screenwriter, and Lee, a petty crook and drifter who steals Austin's creative thunder, leading to disaster in their house. Box office hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and one hour before show times. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays.
