36 apply for city manager job

Some familiar names hope to fill the open position in Brooksville.

BROOKSVILLE - Brooksville received 36 applications for the open city manager position.

The application period closed Friday at 5 p.m., and among the applicants were some familiar local names.

Susan Boyer, the former city manager for Crystal River applied.

So did Jennene Norman-Vacha, who served in a number of positions for Hernando County, including deputy county administrator.

And Dennis Wilfong, a retired veteran of the Brooksville Fire Department.

The city manager's job has been open since Richard Anderson was forced out by the City Council in January.

The job pays between $69,000 and $107,000, depending on qualifications.

The City Council was determined to have a nationwide search for the new city manager.

Nineteen of the applicants come from Florida, former managers of cities and towns such as Belle Glade, Opa-locka, Sebastian, Dundee and Islamorada. A small handful come from elsewhere in the Southeast and Midwest.

One man, Muhammad Ahsan Jamshaid, applied from as far away Lahore, Pakistan. He has a bachelor's degree in commerce and accounting - but no government experience.
