A home-built experimental aircraft crashed on U.S. 441 near Leesburg on Monday morning and was hit by a vehicle traveling along the busy highway. No one was injured. Spring arrives today, so will some warmth
With the arrival of spring comes warm weather. That's the case this year, at least. The vernal equinox will occur at 8:06 p.m. today, just as a warming trend moves into the Tampa Bay area. High temperatures through the week will be near 80 degrees, with little chance of rain.
St. Patty's Day score: speeders 69, DUIs 9
Apparently some drivers celebrated a little too much and drove a little too fast during this year's St. Patrick's Day weekend. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office DUI Wolfpack made nine DUI arrests Saturday night and Sunday morning and issued 69 citations for speeding.
Redner's daughter has run-in with police
The daughter of Tampa City Council candidate and strip club owner Joe Redner was arrested at an Ybor City nightclub on St. Patrick's Day, accused of grabbing a police officer. Teresa Louise Redner-Maida, 32, of 3104 Wesson Way, was arrested at 11 p.m. Saturday at the Amphitheater, a club on Seventh Avenue, jail records show. Police say Redner-Maida grabbed an officer's right arm and tried to stop him from arresting her husband, Michael Maida. Redner-Maida told police she was just trying to protect him, according to a report. Both Maida and his wife were released from the Hillsborough jail after posting bail.
Judge caught with pot
Allegations of drug use are common in the Anna Nicole Smith case. But this time, the judge is the target. Police in Hollywood, Fla., cited Broward Circuit Judge Lawrence Korda - one of two who made decisions recently in cases involving Smith's death - for smoking marijuana in a park Sunday, a police spokesman told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Korda was given a misdemeanor citation to appear in court at a later date.
