120-room airport hotel signs lease

CLEARWATER

St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport will get a new hotel after entering into a lease Tuesday with Market Place Hospitality, an Atlanta company. The company's three-story Staybridge Suites hotel will have 120 rooms. The 40-year lease calls for the company to pay the airport $117,000 annually. There is no target completion date for the hotel, which will be next to the Cracker Barrel Restaurant at 4011 Ulmerton Road.

Service planned for Gary Vickers

A public memorial service for Pinellas County emergency management director Gary Vickers is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church, 110 N McMullen-Booth Road. Vickers, 53, who suffered severe injuries in an auto accident over a month ago, died Monday after his family removed him from life support.

Artists market to fill Central Park

The inaugural Largo Central Park Artists' Market will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Largo Central Park, 101 Central Park Drive. More than 50 artists will display and sell artwork in wood and metal sculpture, acrylic, watercolors, oil painting, Chinese brush painting, jewelry and more. Food and refreshments will be sold and live music and entertainment is scheduled to start after 11 a.m. both days.

Dog trainers wanted for show

Ever watch the show Dog Whisperer and say, "I could do that"? The SPCA Tampa Bay is seeking 30 dedicated volunteer dog trainers for its six-week Family Dog Training Program. Watercolorist shows technique

Join artist Terry Denson for a free watercolor technique demonstration from 11 a.m. to noon Friday at the Largo Community Center, 65 Fourth St. NW. The free event is open to the public. Call 481-6756.

Dress up; it's anime/manga

A free anime/manga mini-convention for all Tampa Bay teens will be from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Largo Public Library, 120 Central Park Drive. The convention theme is "Metal vs. Magic" and participants are encouraged to dress up. Call 587-6715.

Way cool - another hotel on Ulmerton Road. There is far too little traffic in that area now, so this will be a welcome sight. Is "Pinellas" really an old Spanish word that means "go slow and stop often" ?????
