Published March 21, 2007
Scores: Plant 7, Spoto 1 Durant 8, TBT 4 Gaither 5, Wharton 3 Hitter of the day: Durant shortstop Tom Nardello went 2-for-3 with two triples, two RBIs and two runs scored. Pitcher of the day: Plant junior Chris Mischo threw six innings, allowed one run (earned), two hits and struck out six. Defensive gem(s) of the day: On back-to-back hitters in the fourth inning of the Gaither-Wharton game, Wharton centerfielder Andre Dawson laid out to nab a line drive, and Wildcat third baseman Ryan Gawrich dove and snagged a looping bunt in foul territory. Did you know?: Gaither starter Chris Jones finished with three pitches after the first inning, but came back to throw 22 in the second inning. Jones, who earned his first victory of the year after coming back from a broken hand, was pulled after six innings when he stood at 89 pitches. ...Wharton committed no errors in Tuesday's game, the first time at the Brandon site of the tournament a team went without an error in a game. Dugout chatter: "We didn't want Jones going past the 90-pitch mark because he's still getting back into it. He's still a little rusty and he did get a little tired at the end. But he stayed effective because his curveball got a little more snap as the innings went on." - Gaither coach Frank Permuy
