Rotary Club's annual auction Saturday

The Brooksville Rotary Club will conduct its 29th annual "Live on Air" Radio Auction from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, and will be broadcast from Cortez Community Bank on WWJB 1450 AM radio. The auction will include new merchandise and services valued at more than $40,000. The Rotary Club plans to list all merchandise and services to be auctions in local newspapers closer to the event. Those wishing to place bids can listen to WWJB during the auction and place their bids that day by calling 799-5885. The items being auctioned and the successful bidders will be mentioned on air. All proceeds will go into the Rotary Clubs Charitable Trust. For information, call Don Page at 799-6000. BROOKSVILLE Shriners want auction items for fundraiser The Hernando County Shrine Club seeks donations for its annual auction April 7 at the club, 13400 Montour St. All proceeds go to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Tampa. Donations of auction items may be dropped at the Shrine Club from 9 a.m. to noon any Saturday prior to the auction. For other arrangements, call Jack at 666-4980 or Fred at 597-1703. BROOKSVILLE Sign up to be a post service officer The Hernando County Veterans Service Department will conduct weekly training programs for post service officers from 8 to 9 a.m. Wednesdays, starting March 21, at the Veterans Service Office in the Airport Industrial Park, 16110 Aviation Loop Drive, south of Brooksville. The training is open to all interested post service officers. The training will include a variety of topics such as the latest information on the submission of benefits claims, federal law changes and Veteran Affairs Department news releases. COUNTYWIDE Fair association wants to help with tuition The Hernando County Fair Association will award $2,000 in scholarships for the 2006-07 school year. Applications are available at all county high schools, as well as on the fairgrounds Web site at www.hernandocountyfair.com. Applicants must be Hernando County high school seniors or college students with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher. The application deadline is April 2. For more information, call 796-4552. BROOKSVILLE Play time is learning time for little ones The Brooksville Recreation Department is accepting registration for its "Play to Learn: Moms and Babes" program, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays at the Jerome Brown Community Center, 99 Jerome Brown Place. The program focuses on emerging literacy and school readiness skills. Story time, art activities, music and movement help toddlers play and learn. Each week has a different theme. The program is open to children 1 to 5. The cost is $3 per session or $25 for 10 sessions. Reservations are required. For information, call 544-5498. COUNTYWIDE Exhibitors needed for annual shower Exhibitors are being sought for the 10th annual World's Greatest Baby Shower on May 19 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 13485 Spring Hill Drive. The free event, filled with health and wellness information, is for expectant and new parents or guardians of babies through 12 months.
