School choice deadline fast approaching

An important Pinellas County school choice deadline is coming up. The deadline to apply for an attendance area school is Saturday. Parents need to apply for an attendance area school if their child:

- Is entering kindergarten or entering or returning to the district in August.

- Is entering sixth grade.

- Is entering ninth grade and does not want to use extended grandfathering.

- Wants to change schools in the attendance area.

Parents of all children, except those requesting family preference, can apply by calling (727) 501-0871. Parents of children who will be new to the district in August must call or visit a family information center to register the child and obtain a student ID number. Support school, run for matzahs

The Pinellas County Jewish Day School's "Run for the Matzahs " 5K run and walk is scheduled for 8 a.m. Sunday at John S. Taylor Park, 1100 Eighth Ave SW. There is also a 100-yard dash planned for small children. Proceeds benefit the school's scholarship fund. Call 588-0100 to register.

Send kids to camp at Heritage Village

Looking for an unusual spring break experience? Churn butter, bake biscuits, grow vegetables, and more during Heritage Village's Spring Break Camp next Monday through Friday. Deadline to apply for aid is Monday

Students majoring in political science, public or business administration, journalism or mass communication have until Monday to apply for one of three $1,200 scholarships from the Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections. Applicants must be registered voters, Florida residents for at least two years and students at an accredited senior college or university. Applications are available in the financial aid offices at St. Petersburg College, the University of South Florida's St. Petersburg campus, Eckerd College and Clearwater Christian College. Applications must be returned to the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections at 315 Court St., Room 117, Clearwater; 13001 Starkey Road, Largo; or 501 First Ave. N, St. Petersburg.
