CLEARWATER - Police charged a Clearwater woman with murder after finding the body of her live-in boyfriend stabbed to death on the floor of their home.

Sherred T. Burney, 57, was found dead at 1464 Woodbine Drive just before 7:15 a.m. Saturday. A friend discovered his body, police said.

Hours later, detectives took Burney's girlfriend, Lasonya N. Larry, 35, into questioning.

Police said she admitted stabbing Burney and told police where to find the knife.

The two had been dating for about five years, friends told police.

Several times, police were called to quell the couple's fights.

"I'm pretty broken up about it" said Sherred's brother, 67-year-old Harry Burney, who declined further comment.

Larry was charged with second-degree murder and was held also on two previous outstanding warrants.

Residents on the city's northwest side were stunned to learn a murder had taken place in their neighborhood.

"See how it is now?" asked neighbor Jean Brown, gesturing toward the swaying palm trees and one-story stucco homes. "It's like that all the time. Always quiet."

Brown said the couple kept to themselves.

Larry frequently rode around on the neighborhood on her bicycle.

Burney often barbecued outside, having laughs with friends who came to visit.
