Physical education 'work-ahead' camps set

Summer "work-ahead" physical education/health camps will be offered by Pinellas County Schools on Mondays through Thursdays between May 29 and June 28.

Classes are three hours per day, but times vary depending on the school. The camps are for seventh-graders who are taking two yearlong electives this year and want to take another two during eighth grade. All "essential learnings" for eighth-grade physical education and health will be covered.

The cost for the summer session is $150, and the camps are available at the following schools:

- Largo Middle, 155 Eighth Ave. SE, 9 a.m. to noon June 4-28. Open to students from other schools if space is available. Call LaShawn Moore at 588-4600, ext. 2002.

- Oak Grove Middle, 1370 S Belcher Road, Clearwater, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 4-27. Open to students from other schools if space is available. Call Victoria Hawkins at 524-4430, ext. 2107.

- Osceola Middle, 9301 98th St. N, Seminole, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. May 29-June 21. Open to students from other schools if space is available. Call Patti Ruhtz at 547-7689, ext. 101.

- Palm Harbor Middle, 1800 Tampa Road, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. May 29-June 21. Closed to students from other schools. Call Don Comeau at 669-1146.

-Tyrone Middle, 6421 22nd Ave. N, St. Petersburg. Call for times, May 29-June 21. Open to students from other schools if space is available. Call Pam Geiger at 893-1819.

Nominations sought for outstanding bus driver

The Florida Association for Pupil Transportation is accepting nominations through May 1 for its first School Bus Operator Excellence Award. Candidates will be recognized for dedication, accomplishments and contributions to pupil transportation and the community.

Nominations can be submitted by transportation departments, school administration, parents, teachers or school groups. The winner will receive $1,000 and be invited to the 60th Annual FAPT Conference in Daytona Beach June 24-29.
