Housing chief's vision reaching a crossroads March 17, story

Thanks to Aaron Sharockman for giving us the background of Darrell Irions, executive director of the St. Petersburg Housing Authority. I am dismayed at the loss of public housing over the past 20 years and now the closure of the Graham-Rogall housing complex would displace 300 more when housing for poor and working people is disappearing.

The Housing Authority seems out of the loop. Irions' role in the loss of public housing is now clear. It is time for a change in leadership.

An easy fix

Living on Tierra Verde we know how crowded Fort De Soto Park gets on weekends.

There is an easy solution to the problem. To make a reservation at the park you pay the full daily rate at time of booking just like at many hotels. You can only get your money back if you cancel 1-2 weeks before your scheduled check-in. Or, just as they do at hotels, you raise the rates for known busy weekends.

Only Pinellas County residents, who foot most of the park costs, should get a break and preference when booking.
