Head Start enrollment opens Monday

Starting Monday, the Mid-Florida Community Services/Head Start Early Childhood Development Preschool Program in Hernando and Sumter counties will accept enrollment applications for the 2007-08 school year.

This is a federally funded, income-eligible program for children who will be 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 1. Head Start also serves children with special needs and disabilities.

Applications will be accepted from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, or by appointment, at these locations in Hernando County: Moton Early Intervention Center, 835 School St., Brooksville (call 754-2464); Central High School, 14065 Ken Austin Parkway, west of Brooksville (call 597-6732).

To complete an application, parents or guardians must bring these documents: certified birth certificate, proof of guardianship (if applicable), documentation of child's disability (if applicable) and proof of income for the last 12 months or prior calendar year, including four current weekly pay stubs (or two bi-weekly), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), SSI letter, W-2 form from the prior year, statement of earnings from employer, unemployment verification, notarized statement of earnings for those self-employed or Form 1099.
