The free prom dresses will be given away to girls who can't afford dresses on two Saturdays, March 31 and April 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No appointment is necessary. Car burglar gets 30 months in jail

It took a police sting to catch him, and now he's got 30 months in state prison to look forward to. Eric Lee Brown, 24, of Largo was arrested in October on a burglary charge, pleaded no contest this week and received the prison sentence. Largo police started staking out Taylor Park in October because of a string of car burglaries. On the second day of surveillance, Brown broke into an unmarked decoy vehicle, officials have said. He approached the decoy vehicle, peered into a window, opened the front passenger door - and was greeted by Officer Albin Soto, who was hiding inside, officials said. He tried to flee, but other officers caught him. State records show he has been arrested at least five times on burglary charges.

Stores in trouble after police sweep

Following a citywide sweep of 21 businesses, police have cited three of them for selling alcohol to someone younger than 21. "Obviously, it's spring break for the kids in Pinellas County and we know the juveniles in our community have a lot of free time and we also know they spend part of that time consuming alcohol," Largo police Sgt. Bill Shaw said.
