Bellamy Brothers, rodeo contest planned

The Hernando County Fair and Youth Livestock Show will be April 20-29 at the Hernando County Fairgrounds, 6436 S Broad St. Applications are being accepted for a variety of activities and various events have been scheduled:

- Bellamy Brothers in concert, April 27. All seating will be general admission bleacher seating. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for children 4-12 (children 3 and younger admitted free), which includes fair admission. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. Local singers Brian Chytka and Jenny Rimmer will perform at 7 p.m., with the Bellamy Brothers taking the stage at 8. Tickets will be available starting Monday.

- Elementary-age children can participate in a contest to win tickets to the AutoWay IPRA Championship Rodeo at the upcoming Hernando County Fair and Youth Livestock Show. Those interested are to write a paragraph about "What the American Flag Means to Me." Thirty winners will be selected to win a rodeo ticket and will be able to participate in a special national anthem presentation at the rodeo on April 20, 21 or 22.

Entries must be received no later than April 13 and can be dropped off at the fair office. Entries must include the child's name, age and telephone number.

Dance contest set for auditorium April 28

The "Blue Jeans and Country Dreams Dance Contest," will be at 1:30 p.m. April 28 in the Alfred A. McKethan Civic Auditorium at the fairgrounds.

Doors open at 1 p.m. Those interested in the contest can enter in one of the following categories: hip-hop/rap, freestyle, country line, country couples or ballroom. Contestants will compete for prizes to be awarded for first, second and third place.

The registration fee is $5 per person, with groups limited to eight people. Each category has a limited number of spots available so early registration is advised. Completed applications and entry fees must be received by the fairgrounds office no later than the close of business April 13. A CD containing the music to be used for the performance must accompany the registration form and fee.

The Fair Association has the right to approve all music and lyrics before competition day. Competitors without pre-approved music will not be permitted to perform.
