City employee rises in ranks over 3 decades

After 32 years working his way through the parks and leisure divisions, Harry Gross, a former groundskeeper for the city, was recently appointed assistant city manager by Dunedin City Manager Robert DiSpirito.

"It's nice to be part of taking the city I grew up in to the next level of excellence," said Gross, 55. Gross started his career with the city as a groundskeeper at Grant and Fisher fields. He and his wife, Susan, have four grown children and three grandchildren.

While working for the city, Gross attended night school at St. Petersburg College and the University of South Florida. He got a master's degree in public administration from USF. "The city is fortunate to have as talented and experienced a professional as Mr. Gross," DiSpirito said.

City Commission changes meeting

The City Commission meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday in observance of the Passover holiday.

Tourney seeks tennis players

Players are needed for the "Stroke for Stroke" tennis tournament April 20-22 at McMullen Tennis Complex, 1000 Edenville Ave. The tournament is a benefit for the Morton Plant Mease Foundation, which helps stroke survivors and promotes stroke awareness and prevention. Men's and women's doubles and mixed doubles events are planned, and players with a United States Tennis Association rating of 3.0 through open divisions are welcome. UPARC discusses adults with Down's
