Lightning clinches berth in playoffs
But the players say they're focused on winning the division.

Lightning players said they feel pretty good after clinching a playoff spot for the fourth consecutive season - but not too good. "We're happy," center Vinny Lecavalier said Thursday night. "But our goal at the beginning of the season wasn't just to make the playoffs, it was to win the division." Tampa Bay was assured of a playoff spot when the Maple Leafs fell 5-2 to the Islanders. Now the team can concentrate on winning the Southeast. A victory or an overtime loss tonight at the St. Pete Times Forum over the Panthers ensures a first-place showdown Saturday with the Thrashers in Atlanta. "Now that we're in, you move on, and the next step is, 'Where do you want to be?' " defenseman Dan Boyle said. "We'd much rather start the playoffs at home with a No. 3 seed." First comes Florida, which has beaten Tampa Bay two straight and four of seven. "It's the perfect team to play," Boyle said. "They've been a pain in our (butt) all year. We have to beat them." Said coach John Tortorella: "We just need to go about our business." Damian Cristodero can be reached at cristodero@sptimes.com.

We stunk up the place Cathy. Without CONSISTENT goaltending we're not going to go very deep in the playoffs. I'm worried but still with TB. 'Don't have any other options, but it sure ain't looking good.

Way to go Bolts. Hard work pays off. Harder work pays off more. Coach's media stunt worked. I don't care, we're in. Go get 'em tiger.

The Trashers do not deserve the Southeast. Let's take back what is ours.

I am sick of the Panthers calling themselves the Florida Panthers. They should be the Miami Panthers. The Lightning are FLORIDA's TEAM, but keep Tampa Bay to Represent the Bay area. LETS GO LIGHTNING!!

We'll see tonight, if the Lightning players have the determination to make a statement for Staurday's game and the playoffs or not. To me, how they play tonight will say a lot about how far the will go in the playoffs. Their a in great position.

At this point there is nothing that would boost the Bolts' confidence more than a beatdown of the "Stinking Swamp Cats."

The Bolts need to fight the tendency to take that deep breath and relax after qualifying for the playoffs. There can be no let up or loss of competitive edge. Now, they do have control of the division championship and third seed with two wins.
