More projects as easy as '1-2-3'

Home Depot introduces four new titles in its series of "1-2-3" home-improvement books: Lawns, Water Gardens, Decorating Projects (all $24.95) and Patios ($21.95). They're all lavishly illustrated, with step-by-step instructions, definitions, charts and explanations.

Let the sun shine in your windows

If spring sunshine has highlighted the dirt and streaks on your windows, here's advice on window washing from howtoadvice.com: Add 2 or 3 tablespoons of ammonia to a bucket of warm water. Apply with a sponge. Use the kind with a white scrubby side (not green, they're too coarse) to remove serious dirt. Use a towel or rag to dry a 1-inch strip across the top of the window, then place a dry squeegee in this dry strip and wipe downward. Dry the squeegee blade between sweeps. Use your towel to wipe the bottom and sides of the window.

Dream home comes to the Keys

Oh, lucky us: The 2008 HGTV Dream Home will be built in Islamorada in the Keys. The 2007 giveaway home, in the Colorado Rockies, attracted 41-million entries. The 2008 giveaway runs from Jan. 1 to Feb. 18. Details at hgtv.com.
