Museums feel misled over march

ST. PETERSBURG - Just weeks after opening their first facility in St. Petersburg, Scientologists have irked two of the city's most respected institutions - the Holocaust and Dali museums.

Representatives of both museums say they were misled when asked to support a human rights march but not told that the organizers are a rights advocacy group affiliated with the Church of Scientology.

The Florida Holocaust Museum has withdrawn its sponsorship of the Human Rights Walkathon, which is scheduled for today in Straub Park.

The event is organized by "Youth for Human Rights," a local subgroup of International Youth for Human Rights, which is part of the Church of Scientology.

The Dali Museum was also concerned that organizers were not forthcoming about the event's ties to Scientology. But it decided to remain a sponsor.

Those that are negative to this human rights initiative: What have YOU done lately to defend human rights? We are talking about the UN declaration on human rights here, anything else is sidetracking. Check their web site instead of complaining.

The question is why hasn't any other group invested so much to make the UN human rights declaration known? It's been around for 60 years. www.youthforhumanrights.org clearly states Scientology as a supporter and Scientologists as execs.

Great: hubbardists have once again proven how well they are "handling" their Public relations. By hypocrisy relations!

Scientology Human Rights front groups are pure hypocracy and I applaud those who expressed upset at being deceived. Scientology's Human Rights Abuses and Victims Stories can be seen at: http://www.factnet.org/Scientology/dianetics_abuse.html

Would not a human "right" be to know the truth , about the matter at hand.Too be able to make a decision with as much possible data at hand? Who would swallow this "religion" if they had all the facts - Xenu , RPF , etc?????????????

Another Scientology frontgroup detected! The cult tries to be everywhere, same with their frontgroup 'Narconon'. People really have to watch out for them.

Don't care is its Scientology, girl scouts or care bears - not publicly listing the main sponsor was deceptive and the other sponsors have a right to be concerned. How bout some honesty from this "church"? How bout an apology for the "confusion"?

This is a deceptive event, because ties to $cientology aren't revealed. Noone gets a pie chart to show where the money goes, or has gone. Has this organization deceived so many that noone questions an organization using your children to scam money?

Scientology = Trojan Horse.

Per Scientology's own published literature, the "Youth for Human Rights" is now part of their campaign to "reshape the destiny of earth". Also listed in this campaign is to completely obliterate psychiatry. They do this with "front groups".

I checked the website Youth for Human Rights and it promotes the United Nations declaration, not Scientology. 6 million Jews were murdered and the Holocaust museum won't march in support of the UN's declaration for human rights?
by don 04/07/07 06:01 AM
why the "controversy" anybody take the time to read the youth for human rights statement or find out it's origin? It's derived from a United Nations statement almost word for word.

it's a shame that the dali museum hasn't seen fit to withdraw their sponsorship.scientology has been typically vague about where the money raised is going.scientology has a long history of human rights abuse.how is this money going to be spent?
by John 04/07/07 03:15 AM
Typical of Scientology to not disclose who they are. Something like that happened in Australia in a school...
by Al 04/07/07 02:15 AM
I'm glad that someone has taken a stand on this. The cult of scientology uses this front group to protest proper mental health care. They have nothing to do with legitimate human ritghts issues.
