Local screenwriter buys St. Pete Beach theater
By Times staff writer
Published April 8, 2007
A Pass-a-Grille screenwriter behind Hollywood blockbusters including Fantastic Four, The Hulk, and The Punisher has purchased the Film Paradiso Beach Theatre in St. Pete Beach. Michael France said he will continue to show independent and foreign films at the art deco theater but will also begin showing classic cartoons and family films to make the movie house more kid friendly. France said he saw a small item in the St. Petersburg Times in January announcing that the theater's owners were looking for buyers and decided to make an offer. Like other local movie buffs, he was worried the building would lose its unique flair under new management. In March, he purchased the theater for $800,000. "It seemed like this would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," he said.
